I am a sociologist studying men and masculinities, migration, gender, environment, caste, and embodiment.
I completed my Ph.D. from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. My multi-sited doctoral research, in India and Canada, maps the intersection of historical power and privilege associated with gender and caste and explores how these intersections are pivotal to the materiality of contemporary caste bodies – particularly male bodies. Specifically, my research characterizes the synthesis between the macro-structural world and individual upper-caste men’s comportment and bodily expression within the context of a caste-society with a larger focus on the construction and performativity of hegemonic masculinities in different geographical spaces - namely, local & transnational.
I am currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland. My research focuses on examining the interconnections among rural hegemonic masculinities, contextual gender relations, agrarian practices, and environmental degradation.
